Bessie Head's short novel, When Rain Clouds Gather, takes place in Botswana
during a terrible drought. As you know, rain, esp in Botswana, is central to
people's lives. Though the main character is a man, women play a prominent
role--as I recall from having read it yrs ago.

Another aspect of rain & also of women: the Lovedu of SA queen's a
rainmaker.
