The Phillips Collection, the David C. Driskell Center and the Department of Art History & Archaeology at the University of Maryland are pleased to invite you to a two-part symposium addressing the embrace of African art by the avant-garde in the first decades of the 20th century, within the context of cultural appropriation, race, and the politics of representation. "African Art, Modernist Photography, & the Politics of Representation" Friday, November 13 5-6pm Reception, Driskell Center, 1214 Cole Student Activities Bldg., University of Maryland 6-7pm Lecture, featuring Dr. Jack Flam, Distinguished Professor of Art and Art History, Brooklyn College and CUNY Graduate Center. The lecture is to be held in Room 2309, 2nd floor in the Art-Sociology Building, University of Maryland.
