Dear H-Net Readers: Twenty years ago some folks called it a "revolution" in reviewing. Indeed, the numbers are astonishing: * over 30,000 book reviews * 350 volunteer review editors * works from almost 1400 publishers * 20,000 reviewers * average review length of 1,000 words * over 200,000 page views a month at H-Net Reviews Reviewing is essential to scholarship and is an honored tradition. H-Net broke down barriers with online reviewing not by displacing existing print outlets, but by expanding and democratizing the practice -- attracting graduate students, junior scholars, as well as more senior field experts into a collaboration that unleashed the power of networks to critique and highlight new research. And now, with our new content platform in development, we will be able to categorize, tag, feed, and discuss reviews more directly and accurately. Making H-Net Reviews work requires a significant investment of labor, space, and funding. In addition to the countless hours volunteered by dedicated review editors, we must manage and mail an inventory of thousands of books and maintain a staff of clerks and copy editors. Our generous host at Michigan State University provides us with essential space, but the rest of this cost must fall upon us. *The next time an H-Net Review appears in your inbox or browser, please remember the dedication and effort behind that resource, and help us keep H-Net Reviews free and accessible to everyone.* Please join your colleagues who have contributed what they can to our Spring 2013 donations campaign. Please visit: http://h-net.org/donations where you can make a tax-deductible donation via check, credit card, or by phone. Thank you for your generosity and your support for H-Net!
