The book details the conditions and treatment of people who found themselves destitute and vulnerable in Western Australia in the 19th century and uncovers the little known history of poor houses, orphanages, asylums and relief provided by both government and religious organisations to the poor. Dr Hetherington will talk about the archival sources that informed the book and how they reveal the attitudes of the times. Date & Time: Wednesday 18 May 2011, 12.30-130pm Venue: South West Room, State Records Office, Perth Cultural Centre Bookings are required for Lunchtime Seminars and places are limited.
